South Sandwich & South Georgia DXPedition

Presented by Ned Stearns AA7A

AA7A

Ned Stearns, AA7A, is an active ham who has travelled to many rare places around the globe while exercising his mastery of radio. He has visited several countries in Africa, Asia and Oceana while operating in International DX contests as well as participating in DXpeditions. He is a member and leader of the renowned VooDoo Contest Group that has operated in the CQWW DX Contests for 22 years. While with this combined US and British group, he has operated in Mali (TZ), Guinea (3X), Sierra Leone (9L), Liberia (EL), Cypress (5B) and Kuwait (9K). His team has won the contest in the multi-operator category several times as well as set continental scoring records in Africa and Asia. He has also participated in DXpeditions to Kingman Reef (KH5K), Palmyra Atoll (KH5), Rodriques Island (3B9) as well as several other less rare islands in the Caribbean and Pacific.

Last year, he was asked to join the Intrepid DX Group to participate in a DXpedition to the Antarctic Seas to visit and operate on the South Sandwich and South Georgia Islands. Having just recently decided to retire, he had the time and still-current skills to join the team and undertake a once-in-a-lifetime trip to some of the most exotic places on the earth.

Ned has prepared a presentation that captures the sights and sounds of one of the most talked-about DXpeditions in recent times. He will embellish the vivid images and breathtaking videos with his first hand recounting of the tale of his journey to the edge of the world and back.
