W1AW - A Tour of the Station

Presented by Joe Carcia, NJ1Q

W1AW Fall

Studio One IC770 FT dx9000

Have you ever been to the ARRL Headquarters in Newington, CT? If you have, you might recall the very first building when turning up the driveway is The Maxim Memorial Station, home of W1AW. Joe Carcia has been the station manager there for several years. Not only is Joe a ham, NJ1Q, but he works with ham radio all day long. Earlier this year when David Sumner, K1ZZ, the previous CEO of the ARRL retired, Joe became the trustee of W1AW. A distinguished honor indeed.

W1AW is a busy place. With a constant flow of visitors, Joe has to accommodate those who wish to operate while keeping up with regularly scheduled bulletins on several different bands and several different modes. Keeping up with a number of antennas surrounding the station is also Joe’s responsibility.

Join us at our next meeting to hear Joe talk about the many different aspects of W1AW.
