OVARC & Fusion C4FM - IMPORTANT NOTICE

The OVARC repeater technical team has been experimenting with Yaesu System Fusion C4FM over the last few weeks. The intention is to see if the DR-1X repeater system will integrate into our existing linked repeater system and then provide both Digital and Analog upgrade paths toward replacing our 25-year-old repeater gear. The work goes on to decide if making the move to the Yaesu repeater is a wise one, while taking into consideration the deadline for purchasing the Yaesu gear at a greatly reduced price by December 31, 2015.

Please keep in mind that we HAVE NOT made a decision to implement Yaesu C4FM into the OVARC repeater system as of yet. We have received questions from club members as to whether or not to buy into Yaesu System Fusion at this time is a wise decision. We the Board of Directors along with our newly appointed "Repeater Committee Chairman” Gary KT7AZ are NOT suggesting that any of you make a decision to purchase Yaesu Fusion gear at this time while basing your decision on the anticipated OVARC move toward adopting the C4FM Digital format. In fact, information brought out at the December 12 Board meeting may suggest that the DR-1X Fusion repeater may NOT serve our purposes due to technical deficiencies in operation and design.

Currently there are a few Fusion repeaters in our area that may be used with C4FM Fusion. We suggest your checking into their coverage to determine if it suites your needs, and warrants your making a Fusion purchase. Please DO NOT make an investment decision in anticipation of OVARC installing these repeaters at this time.

#1.  At this past Friday's General Session OVARC meeting, the Board Directors presented the new revisions to the OVARC By-Laws to the membership.  A brief summary of key changes to the current by-laws was made and members present were asked to review the document and forward comments directly to the Board.  Every current OVARC member was emailed a copy of both the old and revised by-laws document, and is urged to carefully review the changes and get in touch with any board member in advance of next month's general session meeting.  At next month's meeting the members present will be asked to vote on the adoption of the revised OVARC by-laws.

#2.  The RST Hamfest takes place this coming Saturday March 29th, and OVARC will participate in order to support our friends at RST, and help raise money for our club as well.  Donations to OVARC of items for sale are will still be accepted until Wednesday of this week.  If anyone wishes to donate ham radio gear or related items, please contact David by email at  This email address is being protected from spambots. #1.  At the February 2014 General Session OVARC meeting the forming of a DSTAR Special Interest group within our club was proposed.  This group would be formed to support the addition of DSTAR to the OVARC repeater network.  Our OVARC President is looking to be contacted by club members who are seriously interested in being part of this group, with the expectations that there will be enough people to warrant moving forward with the proposal.  Those members interested in forming the DSTAR Special Interest group need to contact Bob by email at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.  to get involved.

#2.  At this month's regular OVARC Board Meeting held on March 1, the group voted to continue using Group Spaces for managing our club membership information and getting messages out to the club.  Continuing to use Group Spaces will avoid having to institute yet another club email system and add to the confusion of multiple electronic messaging systems.

#3.  Also at the March 1 OVARC Board Meeting the board voted to approve the new OVARC By-Laws revision as previously mentioned.  Having been approved by the Board of Directors, the revised By-Laws will now be posted on the club website for review by the general membership.  Voting on the revised By-Laws by the general membership will take place after any questions or comments regarding the changes have been sent to the OVARC president and reviewed.  The membership voting will take place during a regularly scheduled general session meeting.  Members wishing to comment on the revisions should do so in writing directly to Bob at  This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. .  Watch and listen for future announcements regarding the posting of the revised OVARC By-Laws.
